The Mental Health Association of New York City
presented its 2009 Gala, "Building Bridges to Health, Home and
Families," on June 2 at Guastavino's in New York City to raise
awareness and resources for programs that support the mental health
needs of veterans and their families. More than 435 people attended
the event and the organization raised $325,000.
The evening honored two inspirational Americans, Bob Woodruff,
former Co-Anchor of ABC's "World News Tonight," and his wife Lee.
Bob suffered severe head injuries from a roadside bomb while
reporting from the war in Iraq, and Lee was instrumental in his
recovery. Together they established a foundation focused on helping
veterans who have suffered head injuries and psychological wounds
to successfully re-integrate into society.
Two-time Emmy Award-winning anchor of Inside Edition and best
selling author Deborah Norville was Mistress of
Ceremony.
